Formed in 1993 as a duo by Maso Yamazaki and Fusao Toda, the guitarist of Angel’in Heavy Syrup. The group describes itself as a “space mondo psychedelic group.” Distinct from Masonna, Space Machine, and Angel’in Heavy Syrup, Christine 23 Onna’s unique sonic world emerges from the fusion of Toda’s psychedelic guitar phrasing—showcasing his exceptional skills as a guitarist and composer—and Yamazaki’s spacey electronics. Among Yamazaki’s many projects, this one is unusual in that it features groovy, repetitive beats and clearly structured song compositions. A highly accessible album, evolving to become more pop, more colorful, more spacey, and more groovy than ever.
